FOX's WAR?

Cable World,  March 24, 2003

Byline: JONATHAN BLUM, KAGAN

If early ratings are any indication, Fox News might just be the information source for the war. The channel beat CNN during the first night of the conflict by 11% and bested its rival for Bush's ultimatum announcement by almost 48%. Considering the momentum Fox has generated with its fresh approach to cable news, it's conceivable that the network, whose programming costs are about 37% less than CNN's, could emerge as a breaking-news leader, despite fielding far fewer news gathering resources. CNN's only hope is if a larger audience returns to cable looking for its brand of hard news. If not, Fox could emerge as the leader.
