Cable World, April 14, 2003
Byline: JONATHAN BLUM, KAGAN
As cable's sole 24/7 purveyor of atmospheric information, the Weather Channel has shown solid revenue and cash flows for most of its history. It even staged a nice recovery from the recent ad slump, with estimated YE'03 sales rising by about 8% and cash flow margins remaining steady at 39%. The only operational challenge in sight is managing programming costs, which have risen steadily over the past five years. We peg programming costs will rise by a rational - for news anyway - 10% in '03.
