Mediacom Communications completed its acquisition of Rapid Communications Partners L.P. last week. The MSO, with 6,000 customers in Kentucky and Illinois, cost Mediacom $8M. Mediacom is the 9th largest MSO with 747,000 customers in non-metropolitan tier markets.
SKY'S THE LIMIT
EchoStar Communications paid $50M for a 17.6% stake in Gilat-To-Home broadband Internet service, which EchoStar will deliver to customers this year, EchoStar has also invested $50M for 12% interest in iSky.
GIVE AND TAKE
Microsoft purchased MediaOne Group's stake in Japanese cable broadband player Titus Communications. The deal expands Microsoft's blueprint for broadband deployment and will support its wireless plans. It also points up MediaOne's efforts to divest assets that don't fit with AT&T Broadband & Internet Services, which is buying MediaOne.

Pro forma net income totaled $1.9M, or 6 cents a share, excluding non-cash charges for R&D, the amortization of intangible assets related to acquisitions, and the cost of two warrants to purchase common stock.
