CHIP AHOY!

San Jose, Calif.-based chipmaker Streammachine has produced what it's calling SM2210 MPEG-2. The chip for personal computers would allow users to watch and record satellite, cable or broadcast TV on a computer. The chip is also used for a set-top box that would allow real-time rewinding, stopping and forwarding of programming. Streammachine is working with undisclosed retail outlets and set-top box makers.

GETTING THE MESSAGE

Cable modem Internet provider Road Runner of Herndon, Va., said it will unveil a search tool for its 730,000 nationwide subs, allowing them to locate broadband-optimized audio, video and multimedia content. Rampt.com of Hollywood, Calif., will provide the service. The package will offer advertisers the opportunity to create highly interactive marketing messages.
