Cable World,  Nov 7, 2005

To The Editor:

Regarding "Stealing is Believing" (October 24), the solution to video piracy is to change monthly Internet bills from unlimited usage to plans that mirror cell phone bills. Consumer buys X amount of bandwidth per month-if the consumer buys more, he's charged for it.

I can't imagine this not materializing, especially with the Skype(s) of the world. Why pay for voice communication when it's free, especially when wireless Internet is ubiquitious? This would allow broadband providers to make money from voice through consumer and business deals with VOIP providers.

If cable companies do not start such a plan, then when the government sells off the analog TV spectrum new ISPs will emerge with this business plan posing a possible threat to the cable business model.
