Sahota faces a bail hearing June 13.

After a three-month investigation, the FBI sting began on May 1, 2001, when FBI Special Agent Martha Parker sent an AOL instant message to SurfZenRon, a man allegedly posing as a 21-year-old San Francisco college student. The FBI suspected "Ron" of raping a 12 year-old girl he had been corresponding with on the Internet. Within days Agent Parker and the suspect were engaged in increasingly sexually explicit e-mail exchanges. The FBI already knew "Ron" was Sahota, having traced his phone records, AOL account and an American Express charge from the hotel where the alleged rape took place, in August 2000.
