PIONEER GANGS UP WITH TIVO FOR DVD LINE

Pioneer Electronics is hoping to capitalize on TiVo's name-brand recognition by adding the company's basic service to its new line of DVD recorders. The Pioneer DVR-810H, which is slated to begin shipping in the fall, will allow consumers to pause TV programs and schedule recording onto an 80-GB hard drive, as well as record shows onto DVD-R (DVD-recordable) and DVD-RW (DVD-rewritable) discs. Both the 810H and the turbocharged, 120-GB DVR-57H will house TiVo Basic, a free version of the company's subscription service, and will retail for - wait for it - the princely sums of $1,199 and $1,800, respectively.
