Bandwidth On The Run

Cable World,  Sept 15, 2003

Byline: BRIAN SANTO, KAGAN

By the end of '03, nearly a fifth of all U.S. homes will have cable modem service, and by the end of '07, nearly a quarter will. The numbers are increasing even before new services are widely available, which suggests a growing population of broadband users primed for new applications that take advantage of the added bandwidth. MSOs have enjoyed the success and attractive economics of the high-speed data business, but it opens the door to a new set of rivals offering competing services such as VoIP before operators deploy their own products.
