With the EchoStar merger officially dead, Rupert Murdoch will almost certainly work up a bid for GMH. The trick will be getting the deal done without miring the company in debt. News Corp. could make a quick deal for part of the GM stake and then follow with a tender offer for the public shares at a later date. The wild card could be Microsoft, which was involved in the 2001 News Corp. bid with Liberty Media Corp. and, according to various reports, has expressed interest again.
