Magazines with cable roots are growing. Lifetime will be joining ESPN, Biography and Nickelodeon with a cable-based pub. Success is possible. Every cable magazine, save Biography's, is growing nicely both in pages and in revenue. But the women's market is crowded (to say the least), and the recent collapse of Gruhner & Jahr's Rosie shows that even well-known brands can fail.
