AT&T SNUBBED IN FLORIDA

Cable World, Oct 22, 2001

City Commissioners in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., voted down a ten-year franchise deal with AT&T Broadband last week. The MSO will continue to serve the area on a month-to-month agreement based on the terms of the previous franchise arrangement, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The rejected franchise agreement included a settlement of more than $174,000 in fines owed by the operator.

AT&T agreed to pay $25,000 in cash, make a $25,000 charitable contribution, provide $50,000 in broadcast advertising and add Fox News Channel to its lineup. AT&T and the city will go back to the bargaining table to try to reach a new agreement, the newspaper said.
