TECHTV PLUGS IN BRANNAN FOR PROGRAMMING POST
TechTV, which is shifting from a news-based format to a lifestyle and entertainment strategy, named Greg Brannan SVP-programming. Brannan had been EVP-programming and content at E! Networks. TechTV recently closed several of its news bureaus, but Brannan said the cuts didn't signal that the network was backing away from original programming. "What is a cutback one day can look like a reallocation the next day," he said. Brannan hopes to take advantage of the network's young, upscale appeal. "This is a network that focuses on the coolest stuff," he said. He expects to announce new programming plans in January.
MANCUSO TO ABC FAMILY
Linda Mancuso was named SVP-head of programming, ABC Family Channel. Mancuso has over 20 years of experience at NBC and joins ABC Family after serving as chief operating officer at Peter Engel Productions/NBC Enterprises since 1998.
TLC FOCUSES ON FASHION VICTIMS IN NEW SERIES
With so many rooms already redecorated, TLC will launch a U.S. version of the British show What Not to Wear in March, with a sneak peak in January. On the show, a person is nominated by friends and family as needing a fashion overhaul and gets a $5,000 wardrobe makeover. BBC America will premiere the original U.K. version of What Not to Wear beginning Dec. 10.
TENNIS CHANNEL HOPES SQUASH MAKES A RACQUET
The Tennis Channel secured the broadcast rights to the three major international squash championships in North America. The agreement calls for extensive 2003 programming by the Tennis Channel from all three of the major international professional tour events on this continent, including the Harrisdirect Tournament of Champions in New York City's Grand Central Terminal.
RISING TIDES FOR SOME WEATHER CHANNEL EXECS
The Weather Channel promoted Tom Pratt to VP-programming and product development. He had been director of local programming. Pam Bertino was promoted to VP and general manager, affiliate sales, TWC Networks, from VP and general manager of Weatherscan.
