Ling Takes Wheel Of 'Explorer' Series

Cable World,  Nov 25, 2002

The view is changing for Lisa Ling.

Last week, Ling was named host of National Geographic Explorer, cable's venerable magazine show, which appears on MSNBC.

She replaces Boyd Matson, effective early next year. National Geographic said Matson is working on several projects, including a new series based on National Geographic's Adventure magazine.

"Lisa's energy and bravado is what got our attention here at National Geographic. We expect her to grab the attention of Explorer viewers as well," said David Royle, executive producer of National Geographic Explorer and SVP of production for National Geographic Television and Film, in a statement.

"We'll continue to evolve Explorer in the months ahead, but we will stick to the values of the series, which has been so popular with audiences for nearly 20 years."

Before becoming the representative of the younger generation on Barbara Walters' ABC morning talk show for women, The View, Ling was senior war correspondent for Channel One News and produced documentaries for PBS.
