HALLMARK'S 'VISITOR' WELCOME FOR XMAS
Hallmark Channel is closing out its string of holiday specials with A Christmas Visitor on Dec. 21. William Devane and Meredith Baxter are parents who stopped celebrating Christmas when their son was killed during the holiday season while serving in Operation Desert Shield. It's big news in their small town when Devane's character decides it's time to get back into celebrating the season, buying Yule stamps, lights and a tree. But the real Christmas spirit is the visitor: a mysterious hitchhiker, who patches the holes in a damaged family, at least for one night. It's family-friendly. It's touching. It's sentimental. It's classic Hallmark.

TNN'S 'TABOO' IS A YOUNG MAN'S GAME
Ever wonder what an MTV-generation game show would look like? One possibility is TNN's Taboo, premiering Jan 5. It's based on the parlor word game, but with manic Chris Wylde it's a lot like Password on speed, with a little bit of music and a lot of yelling. And Jeopardy would never feature a category called "Dicks and Peters." The contestants had trouble coming up with the hipper answers, from Jackass (the TV show, that is) to LL Cool J. Prizes are straight out of the X-Games, with paintball wars and dirt bike expeditions going to the winners. But, hey, that just may be what appeals to the channel's target demo of 25-to-34-year-olds.
