Skanemejerier and Samfod form JV

Eurofood, Dec 3, 1998

Sweden's second largest co-operative dairy group, Skanemejerier, has joined forces with its compatriot meat group Samfod to form a new company which will produce and market a range of functional food products. The as yet unnamed group will build on Skanemejerier's know-how in this particular field and create a range of new meat products within the functional food concept. The first products are likely to hit the shelves in a year's time.

"Skanemejerier is one of the leading companies within the functional food sector and we look forward to a number of interesting areas where I know we'll be able to co-operate, both in Sweden and internationally," Samfod managing director Lowe Bjorklund said in a press statement. Skanemejerier already produces numerous functional food products such as its oatmilk drink Pro Viva and Maval yoghurt, both of which are sold in several export markets as well as in Sweden.
