Tesco news home and abroad - Closes store in Redditch - Brief Article

UK-based supermarket chain Tesco has announced it plans to close a store at the Kingfisher centre in Redditch, UK. The closure will result in the loss of up to 83 jobs. However, contrasting this is news that the group is to build a brand new store in Warrington, UK. Tesco's has also said that its online shopping service will be extended to three stores in Northern Ireland creating 60 jobs.

Internationally, it is planning to open up 20 stores in Taiwan, with the first set to open in Nankan this December. Japan has also been revealed as a target market for Tesco, encouraged by the success of its Lotus supermarkets in Thailand. Tesco's international activities are becoming a key area for the company, with Asian sales reaching some 497m [pounds sterling] (817m [European Dollar]), up 200% from the previous year.
