Pao de Acuar expands in Brazil - Brief Article

Eurofood, August 31, 2000

One of Brazil's largest supermarket chains Pao de Acuar is to open one of its Extra hypermarkets in Fortaleza, as part of a drive to expand its business activities in the north west region of Brazil. The group has recently acquired nine outlets from another supermarket chain Sao Luiz. The new 20m reals investment by Extra should create around 500 jobs.

Pao de Acuar also hopes to set up a distribution centre costing 19m reals to support the new store, as well as its existing 23 outlets in the Ceara state.
