Anglo-Italian JV wins Eurostar catering contract - Brief Article

Eurofood, Feb 17, 2000

Momentum, a joint venture between the Italian meat processor Cremonini (51%) and Granada Food Service of the UK (49%), has won the international bidding for food services on Eurostar, a business estimated to be worth Lit 120bn (?? 62.0m) a year with throughput of some 6 million passengers. The contract, set to start in June, is valid for three years with an option for four additional years.

Eurostar said the Cremonini-Granada joint venture was favoured over other, unnamed, bidders because of the two companies' experience in foodservice. Cremonini, Italy's leading meat company with annual sales put at Lit2 450bn, also handles food on all Italian trains, as well as some in France I and Switzerland. The Italian company said it plans to pursue growth abroad.
