Wiseman braces itself for competition inquiry

Eurofood, Feb 3, 2000

Robert Wiseman Dairies, which accounts for some 70% of the Scottish milk market, is set to be investigated by the UK Competition Commission because of its dominant position. The group's rivals, primarily Express Dairies, have accused Wiseman of abusing its standing in an anti-competitive manner.

A spokesman for the Office of Fair Trading said that "We are carrying out an inquiry into the Scottish processed milk market [...] at the moment." It is thought probable that the entire Scottish milk industry will be referred to the Competition Commission.
