David McNair has been appointed to succeed Patrick Davis as chief executive of Food From Britain, the UK government-sponsored food & drink marketing consultancy. McNair was ousted last year from the boardroom at Sainsbury, where he held the position of brand director. He also has prior experience at Unilever, United Distillers and Allied Domecq.
Kevin McCarten has been promoted from his position as marketing director of Sainsbury into the new role of stores director. He will be succeeded by Sara Weller, who joins the supermarket group from Abbey National. Commercial director Robin Whitbread moves up to become corporate development director, and it is not yet known who his successor will be.

Martin Mollmann, Andreas Pache and Heinz-Walter Schmitz have been appointed managing directors at Germany's Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese. Mollman, who has been with the Osnabrtick-based group for 24 years, becomes the board member responsible for sales & marketing, while Pache, an employee of 20 years standing, takes charge of finance & administration. Relative newcomer Schmitz, at Coppenrath & Wiese since 1990, will oversee production & technology.
Steve Leach has joined Diedrich Coffee as director of coffee purchasing. He brings over 20 years of experience of world coffee trading to the California company.
Burger King has announced the resignation of Paul Clayton as president of its North American division to become CEO of a privately held San Francisco juice bar group Jamba Juice. BK is now seeking to fill two topflight positions; the group has already been looking for a new marketing chief for North America for several months after James Watkins resigned last year.
Ernesto Trovamala, managing director of Trinity Alimentari, has been appointed chairman offish canning company Saupiquet, which Trinity acquired at the end of last year. He replaces Didier Lefevre, who has moved to the position of director general of Yoplait, the fresh dairy products arm of the Sodiaal cooperative. Lefevre spent 16 years at Danone, which he left in 1989.
Kraft Foods International has named Paul Carothers vice president of corporate affairs. He will report to Roger Deromedi, president and chief executive officer of KFI and succeeds Aodh O'Dochartaigh, who has left the company.
Andreas Th. Krumm has assumed responsibility for Tekrum, the German baked goods group partly owned by Grieson-De Beukelaer. Outgoing chief executive officer Hans-Christian Krumm, who is Andreas' father and has been involved with the company for 45 years, will remain a shareholder.
Sara Lee Bakery's marketing director Deirdre O'Donoghue has left the company after just three months in the post. Her successor is David Bolsher, who joins the group from United Biscuits.
Jacob's Bakery has lost its chief marketer, Paul Cousins, to Catalyst, one of the strategic brand consultancies he employed. His successor has not yet been named.
Hans Rudolf Mori, whose age obliged him to retire from Swiss retailer Migros, has outlined his proposal to serve the sector as an independent consultant. His first project is to support the restructuring of the fruit & veg range at Tengelmann.
The world's leading retailer has a new boss: after 24 years at Wal-Mart, David D. Glass has retired and will be succeeded by Lee Scott, who has been at the group since 1979. Last year he was appointed chief operating officer and vice chairman, and despite his long service record at Wal-Mart, Scott is considered to be a mover & shaker.
Hasso yon During, board member at Tchibo Frisch-Rost Kaffee in Germany, with special responsibility for the store network and business development, has chosen to leave the group to pursue other business interests. Fellow Tchibo board member Wilfried Bonin will take on his tasks.
Olaf Blank will take up office as a managing director of Germany's Alfred Ritter chocolate factory during the first quarter of 2000. He joins Ritter from Wrigley Germany, where he served as managing director for 14 years. He succeeds RolfRoediger, who died in July last year. Blank's arrival will take the pressure off fellow directors Michael Gahbauer (responsible for sales), Dieter Roth (production and technology) and Friedgard Spingler (marketing).
Oxford Professor Sir John Krebs will be the head of the new UK Food Standards Agency. Although not known for consumer campaigns, Krebs said he would ensure the FSA was open and a model for the best use of science. His deputy will be Suzi Leather, a consumer campaigner, and the chief executive will be civil servant Geoffrey Podger, who has headed the work on setting up the FSA.
Matthews Food Group has appointed James Morgan as sales director. Morgan joins Matthews from Oakland Fast Food, where he served as general sales manager.
Phil Scanlan, a heavyweight in the Australian dairy sector in the late 1990's, has resigned as managing director and chief executive officer of Bonlac Foods. Alex Sloan has been appointed acting chief operating officer. Scanlan is stepping down 18 months before the end of his five-year term following dispute with shareholders over his salary
