US firm Vlasic International has announced the sale of Freshbake Foods in the UK. Freshbake is a supplier of various frozen food products and has annual sales of some 50m [pounds sterling] (81m [European Dollar]). Kelvyn Hale, business director at Freshbake led a management buyout of Freshbake and Kevin Lees, operation director at Freshbake's Salford site, will join him. The outfit also has a site in Glasgow.

Hale said of the deal, "I am happy to have secured this deal as it secures the future of Freshbake and enables us to plan for our future growth. This is a fresh start and we are determined to build a bright future for our business." Vlasic, which filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, also recently announced it had agreed to sell its pickle operations in the US to Hicks, Tate, Muse & Furst.
