Bolivian BK veto's Argentine meat - Brief Article

Eurofood, April 26, 2001

Following new outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Argentina last month, the Bolivian subsidiary of Burger King is to stop importing Argentine meat for use in its products.

Carlos Nava, director of operations, told daily newspaper La Prensa, that once stocks of 1 200 boxes of meat have run out, the chain, which imports the majority of its meat from Argentina periodically every 35 days, will be turning to suppliers from Chile, Paraguay and the US. The country's Animal Health Service has intensified phytosanitary controls on the Argentinian borders, to prevent the import of contaminated meat.
