Auchan to invest in Spain - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Eurofood, August 2, 2001

French supermarket chain Auchan is to invest some 720m [European Dollar] between 2002 and 2006, renovating and opening new hypermarkets in Spain.

Alcampo, the Spanish subsidiary of the French concern, plans to increase the number of stores in its network from 42 hypermarkets, to around 57 by the end of 2006. However, Auchan remains far beyond its compatriot rival, Carrefour, which following last year's merger with Promodes, has over one hundred stores in Spain.
