Numico results - Royal Numico - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Dutch concern Royal Numico has reported preliminary results for 2000, showing sales of [euro]4.2bn, as increase of 84%. Earnings before EBITDA rose by 95% to reach a value of some [euro]660m. Cash earnings rose to [euro]375m, an increase of 72% on the 1999 figure of [euro]218m. The three main parts to Numico's business, of infant nutrition, clinical nutrition and nutritional supplements-all performed well.

Sales in infant nutrition rose by 11% to [euro]923m, particularly in Asia. Clinical nutrition showed an increase in sales of 15%, and nutritional supplements saw a sales increase of 259% reaching a value of [euro]2.3bn. GNC stores sales increased by 6.5%. Numico points out that in this sector, a distinction must be made between Numico's activities as a retailer (GNC) and as a producer of brands.
