Lagris sales up but profits fall - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Lagris, one of the largest rice processors in the Czech Republic, registered a sales increase of 1% to Ckr590m (17m [European Dollar]), but saw its profits fall below 1999 levels due to an unfavourable exchange rate. Lagris did not reveal the exact figure.

Lagris sold some 15 000 tonnes of rice during last year, which represents 39% of the company's overall sales. Lagris is also active in selling pulses, which represented 23% of sales, dried fruit 20%, poppy seed 7% and salt 6%. In total, the Czech concern processed 34 000t of output, 18% of which were exported to mostly Slovakia, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. Lagris employs 320 people.
