Krasny Oktyabr output up - Moscow-based confectioners - Brief Article

Eurofood, Oct 11, 2001

The Moscow-based group of confectioners Krasny Oktyabr, which comprises nine confectionery plants in Russia, turned out 43 000 tonnes of product in the period running from the beginning of January to the end of August. That was 209t more than the group produced in the same period of last year.

Top company economist Lyubov Sorokina told Interfax that more than half that output - 22 100t- came from Moscow-based confectionery plant of Krasny Oktyabr.

More than 20% of the product made was sold through the group's chain of retail outlets, of which the Russian capital currently has 15 and expects more by the end of the year.

Sorokina went on to say that a sharper forecast for this year has the group making and selling 83 000t of product. Krasny Oktyabr as a whole turned out 73 300t last year, 82 300t the year before. The Moscow facilities are expected to produce 50 000t of confections this year. The Moscow group's three plants turned out 40 500t of product last year.

Krasny Oktyabr is looking to start up a new plant in Zheleznogorsk in November. Its production capacity is estimated at 8 000 tonnes of product per year.
