Swiss eating more horsemeat - import quantity increased - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

In response to requests from horsemeat importers the Swiss meat market control board Proviande has agreed to the guaranteed import quantity being raised by 500 tonnes to 4 500t in 2001. A large part of the 4 000t previously authorised had already been imported by the end of August. This increase in demand is attributed to the significant decline in beef consumption due to BSE.
