Bangers bought in under 10 seconds - Food Industry Report - consumer shopping behavior - Brief Article

Eurofood, Sept 12, 2002

Most supermarket shoppers take less than ten seconds to decide on buying sausages--but double that time to choose steaks and chops.

These facts are contained in a report from the Meat and Livestock Commission looking at how consumers make meat buying decisions.

The report--The Shopping Decision Tree--shows that less than one in three people use a written shopping list at the supermarket. Interestingly, bacon and sausage lovers are the least prepared to swap to other meats if their favourite is out of stock--more than 40% said they would buy nothing or go to another store first. On the other hand, those buying joints, more than 60% would buy something different if the appearance or price of their first choice was not to their liking.
