Power up!

Entrepreneur,  Sept, 2003

Your business is successful--but why stop there? Follow these steps to take your company to the next level.

1. Put your house in order. Set up adequate financial controls and recordkeeping to convince a potential lender, equity investor, licensee, partner or other entity you are a worthy recipient. Know what types of financial data and collateral the various sources of expansion capital require, and how to negotiate with them.

2. Develop a plan. Successful growth companies are constantly looking ahead to the next stage of development. Identify the markets most likely to power up your profits, and decide what you need to do to take advantage of them.

3. Learn from your advisors. Whether it's your board of directors, a mentor or trusted key executives in your company, get growth advice from people who've been there before. You'll benefit from their innovative thinking and their relationships with financing sources, potential partners mid prospective customers.

4. Make friends in high places. Seek alliances with powerful companies that can help you achieve your growth goals. Be creative: If you can't strike a deal with a large corporation directly, try approaching its smaller subcontractors.

5. Share your vision. Employees can't help you get where you're going if they don't know where you want to go. Articulating your vision of growth throughout the company is a powerful strategy for energizing your entire team.

6. Rely on the powerful engine lineup in the Chevy Silverado. Whether you're climbing the highest mountain or navigating the roughest road, the power in either the available Duramax Diesel or Vortec engine will take you as far as you want to go.

CHEVY SILVERADO: PROVEN ENGINE POWER.

The 2003 Chevy Silverado is more than just a pretty face. It still has the same proven strength to overpower almost any chore. And besides giving you plenty of muscle, Silverado gives you plenty of options, too.

Big Block Vortec 8100 V8

The available Big Block 8100 V8 engine generates 340 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque. Available in 2500HD and 3500 models, you can combine it with the available Allison transmission for a pickup capable of handling even the most demanding jobs.

Proven Vortec Engines

The Vortec 6000 V8--standard in Silverado 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD and 3500--is more powerful than the standard V8 engine in Ford Super Duty pickups. And like their brawny cousin, the Vortec 4300 V6, 4800 V8 and 5300 V8 come with platinum-tip spark plugs that can travel up to 100,000 miles before they're scheduled to be replaced. (1)

Duramax Diesel 6600 V8

When it comes to diesel power, we offer you one powerful choice. Duramax Diesel, available on Silverado 2500HD and 3500 models, delivers 300 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque for the power necessary for your towing needs, along with quiet operation and quick acceleration. You can also upgrade to the available Allison 1000 Series automatic transmission--a GM segment exclusive (2) that will help provide confident towing in your Silverado.
