CMS urges hospitals to file now, online for extension - HIPAA Update - Brief Article

Health Management Technology, Oct, 2002

Slightly more than 3 percent of covered organizations had filed for extensions on HIPAA's Transactions and Code Sets Standards by Labor Day, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services urged hospitals to get to it. The compliance deadline is October 16--this month--or a year from now for hospitals that submit plans by October 15.

To file with CMS electronically, go to www.rsleads.com/210ht.200. CMS indicates that after filing electronically, organizations will get immediate notice that their extension has been received.
