MD Future of Health Technology Award-1999 Goes to Richard P. O'Brien, HMT Contributor - Industry Trend or Event

Richard P. O'Brien, M.D., FACEP, received the M.D. Future of Health Technology Award-1999 in a ceremony held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in September and sponsored by the Future of Health Technology Institute.

Dr. O'Brien is a contributor to Health Management Technology magazine. His latest article, "Voice Activation in the Emergency Room," appeared in the August 1999 Focus: Emerging Technology feature. Dr. O'Brien is an Emergency Medicine physician at Moses Taylor Hospital In Scranton, PA. He is also Chapter President of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

J. Maurice Fitzmaurice, Ph.D., received the Future of Health Technology Award-1999 for non-physicians. Dr. Fitzmaurice is Senior Science Advisor for Information Technology, Immediate Office of Administrator, Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.

The Future of Health Technology Institute focuses on key technologies and key challenges to the future of global healthcare to enhance health and lives. Their goal is to bring together high level thinkers in the area of new emerging technology and health and to provide state-of-the art technology training for healthcare professionals and assure that their voice is included in defining the future of health technology.
