A study by the Harvard Medical School found that when doctors ordered prescriptions through a computer-based system, there were significant improvements in physician compliance with guidelines on drug indications, dosage and frequency. Physicians using the computer system at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston were able to access drug use guidelines as well as updated information on dosing and even prescription alternatives.
