Wireless telemedicine device

Health Management Technology, April, 2004

Designed for home telemonitoring, the Polytel System consists of a set of Bluetooth-enabled instruments that communicate wirelessly over telephone lines to the Internet. Equipped with a miniature circuit board, devices such as a blood pressure monitor or a scale record medical data until they are within range of an access point, which dials up the Internet once it receives the data. It sends the encrypted data to the vendor's data center, which consists of multiple redundant servers and makes the data available to authorized caregivers via the vendor's Web site. The Polytel System is easy to operate, so patients with limited abilities such as poor eyesight can use it without difficulty. Polymap Wireless, Tucson, Ariz.
