First Consulting Group (FCG) has been selected for the development and implementation of an interoperable electronic health record (EHR) system for the Canadian province of British Columbia. Employing its FirstGateways software solution as part of the project, FCG will provide the collection of a central index to patient and clinical data from healthcare systems throughout the Province.

The Web-enabled clinical portal will present secure health records in the interoperable system and will also link to other functional domain-specific applications. The project is intended to increase patient safety and reduce healthcare delivery costs by giving healthcare providers better access to primary care and other clinical data from hospitals, pharmacies, labs and diagnostic imaging systems.
