MCOs Do Not Report Practitioners - Health and Human Services report - Government Activity - Brief Article

Health Management Technology, August, 2001

Health and Human Services (HHS) stated 84 percent of managed care organizations, or 1,176 out of 1,401, have never reported an adverse action taken against a healthcare practitioner to the National Practitioner Data Bank. The HHS report said a likely explanation is that other healthcare entities, such as hospitals, physician practice groups and state licensure boards, monitor the quality of practitioners, but they are limited in doing so.

The report is at www.hhs.gov/oig/oei/ whatsnew.html.
