Health Management Technology, April, 1998 by Ann McGrath

Today's managed care executives must learn to synchronize technology with their business objectives to remain on the cutting edge of managed health care delivery.

With the continued rise of technology, all managed care executives must embrace a new era of intranets, data warehouses, and staff recruitment challenges.

The 10th Annual National Managed Health Care Congress will address issues for purchasers, payors, providers, and IT executives.

All key players in managed care are invited from April 20-23, 1998 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia to learn about issues affecting every-day operations. Industry driven tracks target educational programming for managed care executives, employers, physicians, behavioral health care professionals, pharmacists, case managers, and integrated delivery systems, provider sponsored organizations, preferred provider organizations, and hospitals and health systems.

Dedicated programming for NMH/IT, the Information Systems and Technology Solutions Forum, stresses the importance of IT in managed care from conception to implementation. At the 10th Annual NMHCC, managed health care and IT executives will convene to exchange information and transfer knowledge.

Since 1990, the annual event occurred in the Washington, DC area. However, rapid growth and interest prompted NMHCC to find a new venue to accommodate over 11,000 managed care purchasers, payors, providers, information technology executives and over 700 exhibiting companies under one roof.

Atlanta will provide a mix of rich Southern heritage and contemporary international urban excitement. Although the location has changed, the National Managed Health Care Congress will continue to deliver high caliber programming, networking and exhibits.

NMHCC-NMH/IT'98 lets managed care and IT executives take full advantage of the enormous power and opportunities of IT and managed care solutions.

Programming includes dedicated industry tracks, pre-conference symposia, and roundtable discussion groups. Through the NMH/IT program and the exclusive executive CIO Summit, CIOs and IT executives will learn unparalleled strategies to immediately develop and implement the latest IT solutions to support their top business objectives.

Furthering the growth of information technology in managed care, NMHCC offers its first NMH/IT plenary session with Dr. Marshall Ruffin, President and CEO of the Informatics Institute. Dr. Ruffin will discuss trends and vision in the health care industry and how the world of IT should respond.

The NMH/IT plenary session will set the overall tone for the IT program by stressing the need for IT and managed care solutions to today's challenges. As President and CEO of The Informatics Institute, Dr. Ruffin has committed his full energies to providing a curriculum and faculty dedicated to educating health care professionals about the latest information technologies.

The 10th Annual NMHCC includes an integrated exhibit hall, featuring over 700 exhibiting companies and over 30 new product launches. Attendees can browse clinical information systems, client-server technologies, cost containment, hospital information systems, software, hardware, and many more managed care products, services and technologies to keep patient care delivery on the cutting edge. The Microsoft Windows NT Pavilion will spotlight exhibitors focused on health care applications and solutions based on the Windows NT operating system.

The event will also feature presentations from speakers Mario Cuomo, Jack Kemp, David Gergen, Regina Herzlinger, Shoshanna Sofaer, Paul Starr and featured speaker Bill Cosby. (For more about the speakers, see page 63.)

Managed care executives have the opportunity to learn both in conference sessions and during entertainment events such as the NMHCC Gala, Opening Night at the Fox Theater.

NMHCC-NMH/IT'98 provides a forum for influential delegates to problem solve, network, partner, align and transact business.

I look forward to meeting you in Atlanta.

A world of managed care

A world of managed care comes to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta during the 10th Annual National Managed Health Care Congress (NMHCC), April 20-23, 1998.

With more than 700 exhibitors and 125 educational sessions -- plus special forums, summits, symposiums and entertainment -- the NMHCC promises something for everyone in managed care.

"We are a one stop shop for managed care executives," says Ann McGrath, Division Manager, NMHCC.

"From CEOs, CFOs and CIOs to medical directors, department heads and physicians -- there's something for everyone," she says.

Attendance at NMHCC grew from 1,000 in 1989 to 11,400 in 1997.

McGrath believes the growth is due to the quality of the show, from the speakers to the educational sessions to the exhibitors.

"Every year we ask our attendees to evaluate NMHCC. We use that information to make the next NMHCC better and more informative, offering our attendees exceptional programs, exhibits and networking," she says.
