BayPackets pockets Epps

BayPackets Inc. has named Ken Epps as its new president and CEO. Previously Epps was senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Williams Communications. In this capacity, Epps is responsible for the company's overall business strategy. He will also continue to lead the executive team as the company prepares to launch its new services.

"Ken's extensive experience within the telecommunications industry and his proven track record with companies such as Williams Communications and AT&T will help position BayPackets at the forefront of the enhanced voice services industry," says Anurag Goel, BayPackets co-founder and chief technology officer. "Ken's knowledge and expertise adds to our strong understanding of the realities service providers face when introducing revenue-generating services into their existing network environment."

To Epps, BayPackets was the right choice. "BayPackets had an excellent team that was clearly ahead of everyone I had seen in developing and deploying enhanced services in a carrier environment," he says. "This group understands the complexity of developing and implementing enhanced core network-based services and is committed to simplifying this process. Westell Technologies Inc. welcomes E. Van Cullens as its new CEO. Cullens is a 28-year telecom veteran who brings business, strategic marketing and operating experience to Westell. Most recently he was president and chief operating officer of Harris Corp. Cullens also served in various executive positions with Siemens ICN, Siemens Stromberg-Carlson and GPT Stromberg-Carlson.

Rodney Joffe gains ultra responsibilities as UltraDNS' chief technology officer. Joffe continues his role as chairman of the board. Most recently, Joffe was founder of Genuity. He replaces Steve Hotz, who continues with the company by sitting on its technical advisory board.

Mobile networking software and services provider Ecutel names Charles L. Riegel Jr. its new chief operating officer. Meanwhile, De Ann Pope was named executive vice president of engineering and product development. Before Ecutel, Pope was president and CEO of Vinciv, a network security switch provider.

Phonetic Systems welcomes John D. Howard as its new CEO. Formerly, Howard was vice president and general manager of Nortel Networks, Asia. He replaces Yahal Zilka, founder and chairman of Phonetic, who served as interim CEO. Kineta names new king: Peter Miccichi. As president and CEO, Miccichi oversees the company's strategy for seeking new enterprise market solutions focused on automating the delivery of business content. He is the first president of the company. David Mathison remains chairman of the board.

David Nolan ends the summer as chief operating officer, a newly created position at Telenisus Corp. He brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and executive management with technology and service companies. Nolan is responsible for the ongoing business operations of the company, including the sales, marketing, product management and operations organizations.

Former president and CEO of NetMorf, Michael Maggio joins Newbury Networks as its new president and CEO. Maggio replaces co-founder and director, Reed Sturtevant, who was the interim CEO. Maggio also joins the board of directors. Before NetMorf, Maggio was senior vice president and general manager for Segue Software.

John W. Combs takes giant steps at Littlefeet Inc. as he becomes the company's new chairman and CEO. In his new role, Combs will serve the global wireless market with solutions such as SPICE. Earlier, he served as CEO of InternetConnect and as president of Nextel Southwest.

Sphera, a provider of hosting-automation software names Asher Shiratzky as its new chief technology officer. Most recently, Shiratzky served as chief technology officer and vice president of technology at Elron TeleSoft.

Jacqueline Soechtic guides FutureSmart as its new president and CEO. Earlier, Soechtig was president and CEO of Lasergate Systems. Soechtig who will also take a seat on the company's board, replacing Robert Kyle who remains on the board.

Barbara Coulter conquers new waters as she joins Xebeo Communications as vice president of operations. Earlier, Coulter was chief operating officer of Creditek. In her new post, she will focus on the business development and financial performance of the company.
