Smith also says that BellSouth is working with DirecTV to examine ways to transmit satellite broadcasts in its developing FTTH systems.

Finally, BellSouth is clearly out in the market examining the newer generation of telco video solutions. Microsoft's IPTV program has been among the solutions being examined, says Smith.

"We have some discussions underway," says Smith, who supports Microsoft's commitment to telco video. "I am encouraged that Microsoft is pushing in this direction. Obviously having Microsoft behind this gives it momentum."
