JAMES E. WEST has been named research professor in electrical and computer engineering in the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He has been inducted into the inventor's hall of fame and has had a private-industry career spanning four decades with Bell Labs. West attended Temple University and holds an honorary doctorate from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
