ACADEMIC
DR. EMMET DENNIS has been named vice president for student affairs at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Previously, he held the position in an acting capacity. Dennis earned a bachelor's in biology from Cuttington University in Liberia, a master's in zoology from Indiana University and a doctorate in parasitology from the University of Connecticut.
DR. JUDITH GAY has been appointed vice president for academic affairs at the Community College of Philadelphia. She formerly was divisional chair for social sciences at Montgomery County Community College in Maryland. Gay earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and Spanish from Findlay College in Ohio, and master's and doctorate degrees in experimental psychology, both from Bowling Green State University.
LARRY BANKS has been named to the media arts faculty at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus. Banks' extensive experience includes cinematography and directing for ABC, PBS and Tracy Chapman and Queen Latifah. Banks earned a bachelor's in media arts from Rutgers University.
DR. S. DAVIDSTAMPS has been named interim provost at the University of South Florida. Stamps is the dean of the college of arts and sciences at the college. He earned a bachelor's in sociology from Tennessee State University and master's and doctorate degrees in sociology from Washington State University.
DR. JOHNNYE M. JONES has been named dean for academic affairs at Jarvis Christian College in Texas. Jones was dean of the school of science and professor of biology at Hampton University. Jones earned bachelor's degrees in biology and math from Prairie View A&M University, master's degrees in biology and education and a doctorate in botany, all from Atlanta University.
ASSOCIATION
DR. PAULETTA BROWN BRACY, a professor of library and information sciences at North Carolina Central University, has been elected chair of the Executive Board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the national accrediting body for teacher education. Bracy earned a bachelor's in English from Fisk University, a master's in library science from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctorate in library science from the University of Michigan.
HONOR
DR. IONA BLACK, a Yale University chemistry lecturer, has received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers for her contributions to the education of chemistry and chemical engineering students. Black earned her bachelor's in chemistry and math at Marymount University, her master's in biochemistry at Boston University and her doctorate in chemistry from Duquesne University.
DR. CASTELL BRYANT, president of the Miami-Dade Community College's North Campus, was listed in the May 2000 issue of Miami Metro Magazine among Miami's "100 Women to Watch." Bryant was listed for her outstanding contributions in the area of education. Bryant earned a bachelor's in library science and business administration and a master's in administration of adult education programs, both from Florida A&M University. She earned a doctorate in administration of vocational and adult education programs from Nova Southeastern University.
