Report: Majority Of Americans Support Diversity In Colleges
Black Issues in Higher Education, August 31, 2000
WASHINGTON
The majority of Americans polled during a recent telephone survey say it is important for colleges to have students of different races, cultures and backgrounds, and that colleges should be allowed to act to ensure a diverse student body.
The survey was commissioned by the Business-Higher Education Forum, a partnership of the American Council on Education and the National Alliance of Business. It is an extensive exploration of public attitudes on race, education and business, and was conducted to gauge Americans' views on these issues as public discussion continues over such matters as college admissions policies and corporate diversity initiatives.
