Education Secretary Stumps for Gore - Richard Riley - Brief Article

Some college students and administrators got a political message during a visit from U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley at the beginning of a three-day cross-country tour he made on behalf of Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore.
Riley talked up Gore's commitment to education last month, touting initiatives that Gore promotes. One of those is a plan to allow adults to claim up to $10,000 in college tuition payments on their income tax returns.
"He will make tuition for most people tax-deductible," Riley says. "That would be a very significant proposal for working families," Riley said at Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana.
Riley also visited Florida promoting Gore's education agenda.
"This is the education era," Riley says. "It's the No. 1 priority for Al Gore."
