The campus as a battleground - Letters
Black Issues in Higher Education, Nov 7, 2002 by Dollie Brathwaite
It was beneficial to have read the article: "When the Campus Becomes a Battleground" (see Black Issues, Aug. 29). Commendations are to Dr. Minor for leading the research to help identify problems at HBCUs. Many problems at one institution cited in the article, Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), are blatant, as some of those noted, while others are ignored to the university's detriment.
There is widespread lack of faculty participation in the selection process, and other areas of shared governance. Increasingly, there is a loss of leadership positions among qualified African Americans. At PVAMU, there is a total disregard for due process.
