Colleges win grants to promote nursing education - Washington Update - Brief Article

Black colleges are among 34 winners of new federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services to promote nursing education, particularly among students of color. The $8.4 million in grants cover two categories--basic nursing education grants and grants to promote diversity in the profession.

Coppin State College in Baltimore will receive funds under both categories, including $285,984 for education grants and $172,015 for diversity grants. Two other HBCUs will get diversity grants--Tuskegee University, $227,473 and Howard University, $254,749. A tribal college, Oglala Lakota College in South Dakota, will receive $221,508.
