* Barry University has been awarded a $146,000 Internet Teacher Training Grant from the Deaver Foundation. The grant will be used to train 100 K-12 South Florida teachers on how to use the Internet in their classrooms.

* The City University of New York's City College of New York Center for Analysis of Structures and Interfaces has received a $1.35 million grant from the National Science Foundation for a joint venture with the Center for Photo-induced Charge Transfer at the University of Rochester. The funds are to be used to improve minority access to science, engineering, and mathematics careers.

* Columbia College in Chicago has been awarded a grant of $10,000 from the Ameritech Partnership Awards Program to train faculty members to use advanced digital technology in their coursework.

* Meharry Medical College has received a $1.5 million pledge from the Columbia/HCA Healthcare Foundation of Nashville. The grant will be used for the endowment of an academic chair in primary care medicine named in honor of Dr. Frank S. Royal.

* Morris College has been awarded a $950,000, three-year, Lilly Endowment/United Negro College Fund Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program grant. The award, which is the largest foundation grant in the school's history, will fund initiatives that will advance technological capabilities on campus and provide scholarships for outstanding students.

* Norfolk State University has been awarded a $25,000 William R. Morris Preservation Grant from the Fannie Mae Foundation of Washington, D.C. The donation will be used to catalogue, preserve, and make available to researchers 31 cubic feet of donated historical records detailing the changing trends in federal housing programs over the past three decades.

* Texas Southern University's Department of Public Safety received a $427,000 Universal Hiring Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The grant will allow TSU's police department to hire additional officers, and enhance safety and security services on campuses.
