Algeania Freeman Named President of Livingstone College - Salisbury, North Carolina - Brief Article

SALISBURY, N.C.
Dr. Algeania Warren Freeman has been named the new president of Livingstone College effective Feb. 1. Unanimously selected as the 11th president of the 122-year-old institution, Freeman most recently served as a tenured professor of speech communications at Norfolk State University. She has also served as vice president of advancement and program development at Southern California College and acting vice president of advancement and professor at Norfolk State University.
Freeman began her career as an instructor in 1973 at Norfolk State and served for 18 years as either an administrator or faculty member at several institutions including Morgan State University, East Tennessee State University and Orange Coast College. She was also an assistant professor and chair of the Department of Speech Communications and Theatre Arts at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
In 1977, Freeman earned a Ph.D. in speech communications from The Ohio State University in Columbus. She received a master's degree in speech pathology and audiology in 1972 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. A native of Benson, N.C., Freeman earned a bachelor's in English from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina.
