Black Issues in Higher Education, Dec 5, 2002 by Ronald Roach

WASHINGTON

The Annapolis Group, an association of the leading independent liberal arts colleges in the United States, has launched a new Web site designed to highlight the contributions of liberal arts colleges to American life and education.

The Web site at <www.collegenews.org> includes news and information from more than 100 schools in the Annapolis Group. The association was created a decade ago to "promote greater public understanding and recognition of the purposes of liberal arts education," according to officials.

"Designed for anyone with an interest in liberal arts education, the Annapolis Group Web site will be most useful to journalists focused on issues, ideas and trends in higher education and to high-school students exploring what a liberal arts education means," says Tom Krattenmaker, public relations director at Swarthmore College. Krattenmaker helped to develop the site.

The Web site features news from the colleges about faculty research, innovative programs, campus events and student activities. It also includes a database of faculty authorities on topics ranging from astrophysics to zoology, as well as links to all the colleges in the Annapolis Group.
