Black Issues in Higher Education, Dec 2, 2004

Empire State College, State University of New York, has been awarded a $2.4 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education as part of the No Child Left Behind initiative. The funds will be used to enhance efforts to recruit and train teachers to work in high-need school districts across New York State.

Through its master of arts in teaching program, which enrolled its first students this fall, the school is giving mid-career professionals the opportunity to transition to teaching through an alternative certification route.
