I poll

Black Issues in Higher Education, Jan 27, 2005

Following are the results from the Dec. 30th edition's poll question posted on the Black Issues Web site.

Q: Do you think colleges and university faculties should give added weight to community and public service in the tenure process?

Responses

78.13%: Yes. Too little attention
is given to the role that tenure-track
          professors can play in the
          improvement of their communities.

12.50%: No. Research
          and teaching are by far
          the most important
          priorities for tenure-track
          faculty members. Faculty
          members should wait
          until they are tenured
          before devoting themselves
          heavily to public
          and community service.

9.38%: Other answer.
