ACADEMIC

DR. JOHNETTA CROSS BRAZZELL has been named vice chancellor for student services at the University of Arkansas. She brings a wealth of experience, most recently as vice president for student affairs at Spelman College. Brazzell earned a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Spelman; a master's degree in American history with an emphasis on the African American experience from the University of Chicago; and a doctorate in higher and adult continuing education from the University of Michigan.

JOHN H. BRITTON has been appointed associate vice president for marketing and communications at Meharry Medical College. Britton has worked as a higher education spokesman at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. He has also worked for Jet magazine and The Washington Post. Britton earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Drake University; and a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University.

ANAND PADMANABHAN has been appointed director of Communications and Information Technologies at Tennessee State University. Before this appointment, he was executive director for Information and Communication Technologies at Seton Hill College. Padmanabhan earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Madras University (India); and a master's degree in computer engineering from Louisiana State University.

ASSOCIATIONS

DR. ABBIE ROBINSON-ARMSTRONG is the new director of graduate minority affairs on the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. CIC is the academic consortium of Big-10 universities and the University of Chicago. Prior to this appointment, she held faculty positions in higher education and was associate provost at Wright State University (Ohio). Robinson-Armstrong earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Indianapolis; a master's degree in education from Indiana University Bloomington; and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Toledo.

HONORS

DR. JOE L. CALDWELL, associate professor and chair of history, received the University of New Orleans National Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award. Caldwell joined the UNO faculty in 1985. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Grambling College; a master's degree in history from Atlanta University; and a doctorate in U.S. history from Tulane University.
